The Chaim Sheba Tel-Ha-Shomer Medical Center is undoubtedly one of the leading government medical centers in Israel and the largest one in the whole Middle East, located 5 km outside of Tel-Aviv.
The Chaim Sheba hospital offers its vast clinical base to the medical schools of Tel-Aviv University and Bar-Ilan University as well as to the Scientific Research Institute named after Weizman with a view to performing a variety of experimental observations and accomplishing at least 25% of all the medical research efforts in Israel. It is the Chaim Sheba hospital that is the only Israeli medical center to have been selected by the American FWA association for being awarded US federal research grants.

The Sheba Center has some 8000 employees on the staff, including 2000 medical specialists representing diverse fields of medicine and medical research workers. The hospital comprises 150 multi-disciplinary departments and policlinics, having an admission capacity of 1990 beds. The Sheba Center is also part of the Tel-Aviv University medical faculty.
